India’s No. 1 all-rounder in Test cricket, Ravindra Jadeja began the new season on high as he scored an unbeaten 150 on the first day of the 2nd round matches in the Ranji Trophy. The Saurashtra player walked in at 59/3 in the first session after they lost the likes of Robin Uthappa and their captain Cheteshwar Pujara. Batting along with Sheldon Jackson, Jadeja shared a 281-run stand for the 4th wicket as they ended the day at the top with 428/4 on the board against Jammu and Kashmir.

Jackson scored 181 off 156 balls with 22 fours and seven sixes while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 150 off 223 balls with 18 fours and two sixes. This is his maiden FC century since making his Test debut in December 2012 and his 8th in first-class cricket. The left-hander’s last three FC centuries have been triple hundreds and he will be eager to score his 4th triple hundred which can make him the first Indian player to achieve the feat.

This was the first time Jaddu took the field since the Test series in Sri Lanka, where he was banned from the last Test due to a violation of ICC Code of Conduct. Though he was a part of the Indian squad for the ODI series at home against Australia, he wasn’t included in the final XI.

When on 125, Jadeja completed 3000 runs in Ranji Trophy in 58 innings at an average of 57. This is his 41st game in the tournament and he also has 171 wickets to his name. Thus, the Saurashtra all-rounder completed 3000 runs and 150 wickets double in Ranji Trophy and became the 25th player to achieve this feat. He also became the 2nd quickest to complete the feat after Vijay Hazare who needed just 34 Tests. Chandra Sarwate (42) is the only other player to take less than 50 games for the double.
