Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were experiencing a dream ride in the now-postponed 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB started their campaign in the T20 Championship with a win over defending champions Mumbai Indians. Before the league was suspended, the Bangalore outfit managed to win five out of seven matches played and were deemed as the favorites to win their maiden IPL trophy.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was forced to postpone the league as a number of positive coronavirus cases were reported among the players and support staff. The former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan opined on the suspension of IPL 2021 saying that the move by the Indian board will hurt the RCB fans badly.

Detailing his opinion on the matter, Pathan reckoned that the team was in a good form and both the power-hitters, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers were able to fire with the willow. He added that the team was a strong contender of winning the IPL trophy and living up to their slogan of, ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’.

“Where the tournament has stopped, the RCB fans will be a little disappointed because AB de Villiers was in good form, Maxwell was in good form, the team was doing very well, the bowling was very good,” Irfan Pathan told Star Sports.

“It was about to be ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’ for them, at least from the fan’s perspective, so it is expected that they will be a little disappointed but it has been a good year for them till now,” he added.

Virat Kohli the captain will be happier than Virat Kohli the batsman: Irfan Pathan

Further, the 36-year-old was all praises for skipper Virat Kohli and Director of Cricket Mike Hesson as he lauded them for their brilliant auction strategy. While RCB brought Maxwell in the auction, they managed to acquire the services of both Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams too by trading them in from Delhi Capitals.

Speaking about the brilliant performance of the team, Irfan reckoned that Virat Kohli the captain will be much happier than Virat Kohli, the batsman. “If you talk about this season, Virat Kohli the captain will be happier than Virat Kohli the batsman. The way the entire team has responded, the way the combination of Virat Kohli and Mike Hesson has worked, and the hard work they put in for the auction.

“They had gone after Maxwell. Before the auction, the trading also put in a lot of effort. We have spoken about Harshal Patel but they got Daniel Sams also, which means they thought if they had got the opportunity to play in Bangalore, the left-arm pacer Daniel Sams will be useful although he did not come of use. Harshal Patel did all the work,”  the Baroda-born said.
