Yuzvendra Chahal, the talented Indian bowler, didn’t mince any words in saying that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have had issues with their death bowling. Chahal has been with Virat Kohli’s men since 2014 after making his debut for the Mumbai Indians (MI). He has been a vital cog for the Challengers, having picked up 100 wickets from 84 matches.

Chahal said that apart from the times when RCB had Mitchell Starc in their ranks, the team hasn’t found it right in the death overs. The 30-year-old said that the Challengers lost 30 per cent of their matches due to lack of firepower at the death. Chahal put forth his opinion during an interaction with Aakash Chopra, shared on the latter’s Facebook page.

That changes everything suddenly: Yuzvendra Chahal

“It always comes to our mind what we should do next. I have played for RCB for 6 years, the problem has always been, other than the one year when we had Starc, our death-over bowling,” Chahal was quoted as saying.

“Because we keep a tight leash till the 16th or 17th over, but I feel we have lost at least 30% of the matches due to the last 3 overs.

“If you restrict a team to 130-odd after 16 overs, you feel that you can keep them to 160 or at the most 170, but at times due to those 3 overs the score goes to 190 or 200. So that changes everything suddenly,” he stated.

However, going into the next season, the tweaker feels that they have the ammunition in their armoury to solve their issues in death bowling. RCB have the likes of Navdeep Saini, Dale Steyn and Chris Morris in their ranks.

“But this year I am feeling for the first time that we have a lot of options at the death. Saini has got matured, Steyn Sir is there, Morris has come and then we have Umesh bhaiya,” Chahal added.

Chahal, who got engaged a couple of weeks earlier, last played cricket back in February during India’s limited-overs series against New Zealand. He will next be taking part in the 2020 IPL, scheduled to start on September 19 in the UAE.
