Really enjoyed working on wicketkeeping skills with him: Abhay Sharma on MS Dhoni

Answering the million-dollar question that hung on his possible comeback to the Indian team, MS Dhoni drew curtains to his golden international career of 16 years on August 15, 2020 (Saturday). Breaking the hearts of countless fans in India and across the world who were hoping that they would get to see the only captain to have won all three ICC trophies (2007 World T20, 2011 ODI World Cup & 2013 Champions Trophy) back on the international cricket field again, MS announced his retirement.

Sharing the news of him taking retirement from international cricket, MSD shared a video on his official Instagram handle which showed the highs and lows of his cricketing career. He captioned the video as, “Thanks. Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”

Former Indian fielding coach and current India A, India U19 fielding coach Abhay Sharma shared some good memories of him working with MS Dhoni on CricTracker. Abhay stated that he really enjoyed working with the legendary cricketer and the two always indulged in healthy discussions during his stint with the Indian team.

“Really enjoyed working on wicketkeeping skills with him and understood his mind during my stint with Team India as fielding coach. We had a discussion on wicketkeepers in world cricket and his own style of keeping,” Abhay told CricTracker.

The former coach has always spoken highly of the veteran cricketer. He has always believed that Dhoni is a cool collector of the ball and none can match him (Dhoni) in head position.

As the announcement of Dhoni’s retirement went viral on social media, a plethora of cricketers including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Shahid Afridi and many others penned down emotional goodbye for the former Indian captain.

In a brilliant career that started on December 23, 2004 and ended on August 15, 2019, Dhoni represented India in 538 matches scoring 17,266 runs, 16 hundreds, 108 fifties, 359 sixes and 829 dismissals across all the three formats of the game.
