The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced annual central contracts for the Indian cricketers on Wednesday. The major name missing from the list was of Mohammed Shami whose wife accused him of having extra-marital affairs on the same day. While the new grade ‘A+’ was introduced for the cricketers playing all the formats, Shami missed out because his wife Hasin Jahan lodged a complaint against him.

She posted screenshots of Shami’s chats with other girls, on her Facebook account. There were whatsapp and messenger conversations of the cricketer along with multiple women. Moreover, she also accused Shami and his whole family of torturing and abusing her and even trying to kill her sometimes. While, Shami right away cleared his stance over the matter, the allegations are really serious and could land him in trouble. Even his career might get threatened if innocence not proved.

Sources reveal the reason

BCCI, however, soon cleared the reason for not including Mohammed Shami in the contracts list. “Shami has been dropped from the player contracts system because his wife filed a complaint against him. Shami has been dropped from contract due to disciplinary reason and will be included in the contract list if (his) innocence is proved,” the sources told NDTV on Wednesday. Shami was in the ‘B’ category in the last year’s contract.

It will be interesting to see Shami will play the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he has been picked by Delhi Daredevils. Moreover, the franchise had used the Right to Match (RTM) card for him during the auction in January. Also, it remains to be seen if he will play India during the investigation over the case is going on. India is set to travel England after the conclusion of IPL and Shami would be key to India’s fortunes as he was in South Africa recently.
