Ajinkya Rahane’s 74 in the game between Rising Pune Supergiants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bangalore on 7th may 2016 provided his sixth fifty in the ongoing IPL 2016 edition. Virat Kohli with his 108 not out in Bangalore’s innings became the second batsman in the ongoing IPL to score six fifties. Rahane and Kohli became the tenth and eleventh batsman in the history of IPL to score ten or more fifties in an IPL edition.

Kohli achieved a record which no captain has achieved in the Indian Premier League so far. He had an aggregate of 433 runs prior to the start of the game against Rising Pune Supergiants at Bangalore on 07.05.16 He needed 67 runs for his 500 runs. He scored 108 not out in the game which fetched him an aggregate of 541 runs at the end of the game. He became the only captain in the history of IPL to score 500 plus runs in three separate editions. He has an aggregate of 634 in 2013 and 505 in 2015 and 541 in 2016. He went past Sachin Tendulkar who has accomplished the feat in two editions. 618 in 2010 and 553 in 2011. Virat Kohli’s 634 in 2013 is the record for most runs scored by a captain in any edition of the Indian Premier League.

Virat Kohli emulated Chris Gayle in scoring two centuries in the same edition. Both the batsmen represented Royal Challengers Bangalore while accomplishing the feat. Kohli’s 108* is the fifth occasion of a captain scoring a hundred in IPL. He is the only captain to score two centuries – 100 not out against Gujarat Lions at Rajkot on 24.04.16 and 108 not out against Rising Pune Supergiants at Bangalore on 07.05.16. It is noted with interest that Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants are the two new teams appearing in the IPL 2016 edition in place of two banned teams – Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
