Ever since the Test squad has been announced for the series against Windies, Karun Nair has been trending on social media for a lot of reasons. The Karnataka batsman was dropped from the squad despite not getting a chance to play even once in the Test series against England and this sent shock waves across the country.
A lot of former cricketers like Sunil Joshi, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar expressed their dissent over his exclusion from the side. Whilst the whole fraternity is sympathizing on the 26-year-old, a new report in Times of India suggests that attitudinal problems cost Karun Nair his place in the side.
According to the sources close to TOI, there was no point in keeping him in the squad if the captain and coach had no intention to play him in the XI. Although the news is hypothetical, it’ll be interesting to see how the fraternity will react to this.
“You’ve to ask the captain (Virat Kohli) and coach (Ravi Shastri) about why he wasn’t picked in the XI in England. There was no point in picking him for this series if he isn’t going to play,” sources close to the selectors told TOI,” Sources close to the team management, however, hinted the fact that ‘attitudinal problem’ might have hurt Nair’s selection in playing XI vs England and for Windies series,” quoted TOI.
Prithvi Shaw set to make his International debut
With a flabbergasting rendition in the Indian Premier League (IPL) followed by a stellar domestic performance, Prithvi Shaw gave no other options but to select him in the Indian side. The same is the case with Mohammed Siraj and Mayank Agarwal, who consistently kept performing well in the domestic circuit and eventually earned a place in the side.
Prithvi Shaw is highly likely to open the innings against Windies alongside KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal might have to wait a little longer for his chance. Siraj too has a good chance of featuring in the XI as Jasprit Bumrah has been rested.
