There are a lot of speculations doing the rounds in Indian cricket over the past few days. After India’s exit from the 2019 World Cup, it was learned that the team was being divided into a couple of fragments, one supporting captain Virat Kohli and the other in favour of limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma. Kohli and Rohit’s relationship has been rumoured to be a souring one.

India is set to travel the West Indies and both the Indian stalwarts would be a part of the tour, scheduled to get underway on August 3 with the first T20I at Lauderhill, Florida. The 30-year-old Virat also won’t be holding the pre-departure press conference. Avoiding questions from the journalists surrounding his relation with Rohit is thought to be the decision behind Kohli’s move.

Both are mature individuals, BCCI source

Even Rohit has maintained a stoic silence on the issue. Kohli and Rohit reportedly disagree regarding family time during overseas tours. The responsibility of travel plan of WAGs currently lies with Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri. In the meantime, it has been learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is trying its best to sort out the issues between the duo.

BCCI CEO Rahul Johri is likely to fly to the US in order to hold talks with Rohit and Virat in the presence of Shastri. “In today’s age when support groups get involved, things can get messy. Both are mature individuals and things should be back on track after being spoken with,” a source in the BCCI, privy to the developments, was quoted as saying in Times Now.

Recently, Rohit unfollowed Anushka Sharma, Virat’s better-half, on Instagram and the development has undoubtedly added fuel to fire. Thereafter, Anushka, also a renowned Bollywood actress, posted a message on her Instagram story, which seemed to have been directed at Rohit. Previously, the Mumbaikar also boycotted Kohli on the same media platform.

Amidst all the commotion, a few people, including the likes of Gautam Gambhir, reckons that the issue has been blown out of proportion. Even bowling coach Bharat Arun feels that the duo gets along well and Rohit often goes to Virat for advice.
