Team India is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against South Africa after the ongoing Test series. The first ODI is set to be played on January 19 but the BCCI hasn’t announced the squad yet with the new white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma not regaining full fitness. The team should’ve been announced by now for the 50-over series but it has been understood that the selectors want to give him every chance to get fit.

India’s white-ball captain sustained a hamstring injury just before flying to South Africa for the Test series. He was ruled out of Tests but was expected to get fit in time for ODIs. It was also reported earlier that he will be selected in the team subject to selection and may be given time to get fit in time before the first ODI on January 19.

Meanwhile, senior journalist Boria Majumdar, while speaking on RevSportz Youtube channel, stated that the BCCI physio is yet to get the fitness report of Rohit Sharma. For the same reason, the selectors have also decided to push the squad selection back to January 1 now. With more than two weeks to go for the series, selectors feel there is enough time to delay the selection.

KL Rahul might lead India if Rohit doesn’t get fit

Meanwhile, KL Rahul’s sensational time with the Indian team will continue if Rohit Sharma fails to regain full fitness. It was reported a few days ago that he might lead team India in the South Africa ODIs in case the regular skipper is not available. He is currently the vice-captain of the Test team, again filling in for Rohit in the role and starred in India’s famous win in Centurion scoring a scintillating ton in the first innings.

He also won the Player of the match award for his brilliant knock where he scored 123 and then backed it up with 23 more runs extending India’s lead. He would love to continue playing the same way for the rest of the tour,
