The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was a massive success despite it being played in the UAE amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Soon after the conclusion of the tournament on November 10, the rumours of two new teams being added started to do the rounds even as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) didn’t comment anything on the matter.

However, it is now being understood that the board is set to approve the addition of two new teams into the extravaganza. BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) is set to take place on December 24 and a notice regarding the matter signed by the secretary Jay Shah has already been reportedly sent to the affiliated units and it remains to be seen what transpires in the meeting.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the BCCI has listed a total of 23 matters to be discussed at the AGM, one among which is also the election of Vice-President. Mahim Verma held the post for a year after being elected unopposed in 2019. However, he resigned earlier this year and is set to be replaced.

Final decisions regarding IPL 2021 likely to be taken

Among all the matters to be discussed, the BCCI AGM is likely to witness thorough discussions over the 14th edition of the IPL with only four months left for the event. If two new IPL teams are to be added, then a mega auction will have to take place while a mini auction will happen in the other case. The board had asked the franchises to reportedly wait until December but there hasn’t been any official verdict on the matter.

It was also understood that the franchises are against adding two new teams for IPL 2021 as they will get very less time to prepare for the mega auction. Another major point to be discussed in the AGM is to update on team India’s future tour programs and a tentative schedule could be finalised then.
