Ending all the speculation surrounding the future of Ravichandran Ashwin in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kings XI Punjab have finally decided to trade the spinner with Delhi Capitals. Even though KXIP co-owner Ness Wadia had earlier refuted the rumours, latest media reports suggest that the deal is all done and dusted.

Both the franchises were in negotiation for a long time and they reportedly reached an impasse at one stage. It was probably at that stage, Wadia had said that spinner would remain with KXIP. At that time, the team co-owner had insisted that the franchise changed its decision after realizing that Ashwin is an integral part of the team.

Well, it did not take long for KXIP to change their mind once again as they have decided to trade the bowler with DC. According to India Today, sources in the DC franchise said that the move has been finalized. The sources also said that the deal would be announced soon in the near future. “Yes, it is done and we will announce soon,” the official told.

Kings XI Punjab to rope in Trent Boult, J Suchith

According to media reports, Kings XI Punjab and DC had reached an impasse because the latter did not want to release two players. KXIP wanted two players in order to release Ashwin. And according to Mumbai Mirror, the two players are New Zealand star Trent Boult and Karnataka’s all-rounder Jagadeesha Suchith.

DC had roped in Boult in 2018 after splashing INR 2.2 crores. The New Zealand pace spearhead had gone on to justify the faith shown in him by leading Delhi’s pace attack. Boult had finished the season as DC’s leading wicket-taker, picking up 18 wickets from 14 games. However, he fell down the pecking order this year as Kagiso Rabada returned after missing last year’s edition due to injury.

In 2019, Boult played just five matches and picked up as many wickets. On the other hand, Suchith was signed by Delhi mid-season as a replacement for Harshal Patel. He played one match in IPL 2019 where he took a couple of wickets. With Ashwin gone, KXIP will also have to appoint a new captain as their search for their first-ever title continues.
