In what can be a massive upset to India’s campaign in the finals of the Women’s World Cup 2017, their main star from the last two wins middle order batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur reportedly hurt herself while practising in the nets today. The Indian eves will face the English test in the final of the championship at the home of cricket, Lord’s tomorrow.

Harmanpreet’s consecutive heroics helped India’s journey to the finals. She scored a half century in the virtual quarter-final against New Zealand, followed by a heroic 171 in the semi-finals against Australia. That knock came when she was struggling with a hamstring pull. She hit 20 fours and seven sixes to make the Australian bowlers look powerless. Her knock was even compared to Kapil Dev’s 175* against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup.

Espncricinfo journalists Melinda Farrell posted the news on Twitter. She wrote “Injury worry for India. Harmanpreet Kaur hurt her right shoulder batting in the nets. Said she was fine but looked v uncomfortable. #WWC17”

Not just Indians, Harmanpreet won the hearts of the Australians too. After the game, Australia’s Alex Blackwell presented her playing jersey to Kaur for the outstanding knock, which is also the highest score by an Indian woman cricketer in World Cup history. However, if she does not recover in time for the big day, India’s chances of winning their maiden World Cup title will certainly receive a jolt.

A golden chance to create history

This is the second time when India have made it to the finals of the tournament. The first time they did was in 2005 when they lost the final to the Aussies. The iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground is all set to host women World Cup final after 24 years, it last hosted the same in 1993 when England beat New Zealand.

India’s journey to the finals has been remarkable. From having to play the World Cup qualifiers to be eligible for participation the tournament, they have beat some big names to march their way for the summit clash. And whether they win the finals or not, this tournament definitely has changed the face of women’s cricket in India.
