Multan Sultans, the new franchise from Pakistan Super League, has picked Imran Nazir in their squad. It has been reported that he will be part of the side in the next season of PSL in 2018. Nazir has not played any International cricket since 2012.

The decision from the franchise looks baffling as the right hander has not even been part of any competitive cricket from 2014. He last played for Pakistan in 2012 in a T20 International against Sri Lanka at Colombo. Though, Nazir has an opportunity once again to show his prowess in the highly rated league which has drawn parallels with other leagues around the world.

Fazeela Saba, the sports anchor at PTV Sports, posted this news on her official Twitter handle. Her tweet read, “Good news for fans of Imran Nazir, he will be in action in PSL 3 from Multan Sultans.”

International career of Imran Nazir

The 35-year-old has not had a long international career though he has made his Test debut way back in 1999. He was only a 17-year-old kid at that point and was hailed a lot for his excellent batting skills. Nazir has featured in 8 Tests for Pakistan and has scored 427 runs at an average of 32.84. He has played a lot more matches in limited overs format featuring in 79 ODIs and 25 T20Is.

He couldn’t impress the selectors though and was dropped owing to consistent poor returns. The right hander was part of the Pakistan’s journey to the final in the inaugural World T20 in 2007. He played a crucial knock in the final against India but unfortunately lost.

Nazir once again has been provided with the opportunity to showcase his talent in PSL. His talent is not on his side but you never know if he does well, he might come again in the reckoning for the national side at least for T20Is.
