Pakistan team went down in all the three formats to South Africa recently and more so, they haven’t been doing well in the Tests even at home (UAE). More often than not, the former cricketers have criticised the structure of the domestic cricket and the lack of attention it has been getting as the reason for such a decline. But the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking to solve the problem it seems. They are considering Younis Khan’s name to coach and manage the Pakistan U19 team.
Younis was one of the best batsmen Pakistan ever had who retired a few years ago and since then, the team has struggled to find his able replacement. Moreover, his technique perfectly suited to bat in any conditions and had a calm head over his shoulders to deal with any situation.
According to the reports in Pak Passion, the PCB has zeroed in on Younis Khan’s name for the top job and it remains to be seen if the legendary cricketer accepts the role. India appointing Rahul Dravid for their U19 team has done wonders for their cricket. The likes of Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill who were part of the U19 World Cup triumph in 2018, have already played at the highest level and Pakistan also in search of something special it seems.
Yousuf to be batting coach?
The reports in the Pak Passion also suggests that another technically strong batsman of his playing days, Mohammad Yousuf, is in line to become the batting coach at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. This move will also be fruitful for Pakistan cricket as Yousuf was one of the most successful batsmen for them in the alien conditions.
The players struggling to find their groove can work under Yousuf at the NCA and fine-tune their skills, especially for Test cricket. Amidst all the reports, there is no confirmation of the same from the PCB on the matter.
