Its been a hectic 2019 for Virat Kohli’s Team India. Post the 50-over World Cup, the team has been constantly on the road. India went to the Caribbean for a full-fledged tour right after the quadrennial event in England, and since then have been playing hosts to the visiting South Africans.

There is expected to no respite. After South Africa, their Asian neighbors will visit for a 3-match T20I series followed by two Test matches. After the Bangladesh series is done and dusted, India will host the West Indies (3 ODIs + 3 T20Is), Sri Lanka (3 T20Is) and Australia for a One-day series before traveling to New Zealand for a full tour that will comprise of 5 T20Is + 3 ODIs + 2 Tests.

So, going into the T20I series against Bangladesh, one of the questions doing the rounds is whether the Indian captain will be given a rest. In the past 12 months, Team India has played 10 Tests, 28 One-day Internationals and 10 Twenty20 Internationals, having missed only 6 T20Is (vs West Indies and New Zealand) and remaining two ODIs of the New Zealand series that India had already won.

Will Virat be rested?

With the preparations of next year’s T20 World Cup in full swing, it might not be a bad idea, after all, to rest the Indian captain Virat Kohli and try out a few youngsters. It will not only give Virat, a much-needed break but will also help him recharge and reboot ahead of the crucial New Zealand tour. The selectors are thinking on these lines if the reports in the Mumbai Mirror are to be believed and there may be an all-round consensus to it when they meet to select the team for Bangladesh series.

According to the Mumbai Mirror, the selectors are mulling over giving opportunities to the likes of Sanju Samson, all-rounder Shivam Dube, Shubman Gill, and even Krishnappa Gowtham, who stands a slight chance. Bangladesh tour of India starts from November 03 with a Twenty20 International followed by the other two on November 7 and 10. The 2-match Test series will start at the Holkar Stadium in Indore from November 14.
