Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018-19 is now a week away and India, for the first time in a really long time away from home, has been adjudged as the favourites to lift the coveted trophy. However, Ricky Pointing’s views might upset some Indian fans. The former Australian captain predicted that the series scoreline would go down in favour of the Australians.

For the past 40 years, India has been eluded of a series victory against Australia down under and Ponting is of the opinion that the Indian batsmen will find it tough to get going on the quick and bouncy tracks, against a formidable Australian bowling line-up. He believes that the Australian batsmen will find it easy to counter the visitors’ bowling attack as compared to the Indian batters.

Pitches with life

“I’d love to see the pitches have a little bit in them because I think our batters will bat better against their (bowlers) with something in them than their (batters) will against ours,” cricket.com.au quoted Ponting as saying.

The former Australian batsman and legend also claimed that Usman Khawaja will outperform Virat Kohli and will be the leading run-scorer and the man of the series.

“Right now he’s in a really good place, the selectors backed him through that UAE tour, gave him a chance and he came out (better) on the other side of that. With the skill that he’s got and maybe a bit more belief in his own game than ever before, I think he’s got the perfect package to have a great summer,” the Australian legend added.

The T20I series ended up in a tie, thanks to a wash-out. The Australian batting in the absence of their stalwarts in David Warner and Steven Smith looks weak and it’s almost as if a young team is out to find its place in International cricket.

The Indian bowling attack is the most attacking one that the visitors have had in years and the bowling spearheads proved themselves in the South Africa and England tours. A might batting line-up and a consistent bowling attack makes India the favourites. The Test series will get underway on December 6 in Adelaide and the visitors will look to cash in on their best chance in a long time to finally end their wait for a Test Series victory down under.
