'Right time to pass on the microphone' - David Lloyd announces retirement from commentary

David Lloyd’s stint behind the microphone has come to an end. The legendary England commentator has decided to ‘pass on the microphone’ after spending more than two decades commentating on the game.

Lloyd took to Twitter to announce his decision. The veteran commentator stated that he feels privileged to have taken the sport of cricket into the houses of so many people.

Lloyd also added that he has made so many wonderful memories, and has been lucky to travel around the world and to have covered The Ashes, as well as the limited-overs World Cups as well. The commentator also revealed that the retirement of Michael Holding from the commentary box has made him feel more ‘empty’.

David Lloyd also tweeted that the highlight of his career was sharing the commentary box with the legendary Billy Lawry. He also added that it was a pleasure to have worked with legends like Ian Bishop, Shane Warne, Ravi Shastri, Shaun Pollock, and Ian Smith.

Lloyd also tweeted that it is time for him to now move on to the next chapter in his life. Lloyd is confident that the SKY commentary box is now in the able hands of commentators like Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton, Ian Ward, and Robert Key.

Lloyd also asked people behind the mic to entertain the next generation of cricket fans and help them fall in love with the game of cricket. Lloyd also played 9 Tests and 8 ODIs for the England side. The current 74-year-old played his last international match for the England side in the year 1980.
