The Delhi Daredevils batsman Rishabh Pant won the Emerging Player of the year award in the 2018 edition of the tournament. The left-handed batsman impressed one and all with his swashbuckling and consistent performance throughout the tournament. Delhi failed to get to the playoffs playing but in the 14 matches of the tournament Rishabh Pant piled up 684 runs with 1 century and 5 half-centuries. He scored his runs at the strike rate of 173.60.
One player who used to play dominant cricket was former West Indies skipper Viv Richards. And if you get high praises from Richards himself, it means that you’ve come a long way. The former Windies batter in a Times of India column wrote that he was impressed by the six hitting abilities of the Delhi batsman. He also mentioned that Pant played smartly as well when his side needed him to do so.
Pant is the new power-hitter: Richards
“Delhi’s Rishabh Pant has evolved as the new power hitter in the game and has also been smart with his batting when his team needed him,” said 66-year old Richards. According to Richards, each player performs their roles differently and during the 11th edition of the tournament, a number of players rose to the occasion and impressed one and all. The two-time World Cup winner Richards was impressed by the performances of KL Rahul, Rashid Khan, and Ambati Rayudu as well.
“Each player plays a crucial role and some players have stood out in this edition. Rashid Khan, for instance, has not failed to impress along with KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu who have been equally sensational,” Richards wrote in his TOI column. He also hailed the consistency of Narine, Raina, and Russell as they put on an impressive performance in yet another IPL season.
As CSK lifts their third IPL trophy, it will be interesting to see the journey of the players in the upcoming Indian domestic season who have been a star for their IPL franchise.
