Rishabh Pant talks about MS Dhoni's influence and his focus on doing well in IPL 2019
He also admitted that the place in the World Cup squad is at the back of his mind.
Team India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will turn out for the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Last year, he was the second highest run-getter in the tournament with 684 runs and also had a century to his name. Now with the team changing their name to Delhi Capitals and wearing a new attitude, Pant will be key to their success in this season.
Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting has called him an exceptional talent but also a really good thinker about the game. He also felt that Pant has a mature head on his shoulders and understands the game and reads the situations well. Pant will have the help of former India captain Sourav Ganguly in DC camp, as he has been hired by the franchise as an advisor.
Recently, Rishabh Pant was interviewed by CricketNext and he opened up about many things related to his form and how he prepares for the upcoming season.
Pant shares his preparation for IPL 2019
Pant was asked about how he felt about playing in the low-pressure environment of IPL, after spending time in the intensity of international cricket. He said that at this level, the pressure will always be there. However, he termed that international cricket pressure is different. He just wanted to perform and make his team win the trophy.
Pant talks about MS Dhoni and his influence on other players
Rishabh Pant spent some valuable time with MS Dhoni in the Indian team and revealed that he had asked for the great wicketkeeper’s advice on getting better. “I have talked about my game with Mahi bhai and as a player, you need to keep improving every match every day. His aura is totally different. When he comes into the dressing room, his calmness is legendary and you can talk to him about anything and any problem. That’s the kind of aura he shares with everyone. He makes you comfortable and gives you the right advice,” he said.
Focussed on playing in the IPL
Rishabh Pant has been on the list of many former cricketers and experts who have chosen their probable Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2019. However, given his recent form, his place is not been confirmed yet and this IPL gives him a chance to confirm his spot for the ICC mega event.
When asked if he was thinking about the spot in India’s squad for the World Cup going into the IPL, Pant agreed to say, “That thing will always be there on my mind, but right now I am not focusing on that. I am more focused on IPL and want to help the team do well.”
