Discarded Indian batsman Robin Uthappa has hinted towards a comeback to the national team on Twitter. Uthappa played his last ODI for the men in blue in the year of 2015 vs Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. His last T20 international also came that year in that very series at the same venue.

The main story:

Uthappa took to his official Twitter handle and posted a video of himself in the nets. The player can be seen facing deliveries in the video and looked absolutely fluent with his strokeplay. In the caption, he added a number of hashtags making it clear that he is eyeing a comeback into the national team. He also expressed that his positive feeling about the game after his comeback to practice.

The caption read I’m back at it!! #lovingit #feelingit #imcomingforit #TeamIndia.

Uthappa had a decent IPL stint earlier this year for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders. Uthappa scored a total of 388 runs in the lucrative league’s iconic 10th edition. Knight Riders successfully crossed the group stages of the tournament and made it to the playoffs. After beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first playoff match, the Knight Riders lost to the Mumbai Indians which prevented them from booking a final berth.

Robin Uthappa has featured in 46 One Day Internationals 13 T2Os for India scoring 934 and 249 runs in the formats respectively. He earned his first ODI cap on April 9, 2006, against England at the Nehru Stadium. September 13, 2017, marks his first T20 game for India at Kingsmead in the year of 2007.

With age not on his side, it will be difficult for the wicket-keeper batsman to make his way into the national side. Robin Uthappa is now 31 years old and will face a lot of competition for the spot that will be left vacant by MS Dhoni soon. Cricketers like Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant are leading the race to grab the position but Uthappa has the capability to give them a run for their money.
