Veteran Indian batsman Robin Uthappa has been a stalwart figure in the Karnataka lineup in the Indian domestic circuit for almost a decade and a half now. He is all set to part ways with his native state for the upcoming domestic season. He has been a part of the Karnataka side that lifted various accolades including the Ranji Trophy triumphs. Uthappa has served the team in various capacities of player, captain, wicket-keeper batsman and a senior statesman in the team.

However, in the previous season of the Ranji Trophy, his poor form saw him being out of the squad towards the knock out stages. At the same time, the opportunity to play for a new state beckoned for Robin Uthappa. Apparently, he is set to play for Kerala in the upcoming season. Albeit there has been no confirmation about the same from Uthappa’s end, the news seems to be true since the officials at Kerala cricket have been speaking about his arrival in the camp.

The Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Mr. Sudhakar Rao, recently confirmed that an NOC has been granted to Robin Uthappa to play for some other state. He noted that he has had discussions with the batsman about why he wishes to move out of Karnataka state.

“I had a long chat with Robin and he had his reasons for moving out. We tried to hold him back but couldn’t, so we had to issue the NOC as per his request. His contribution to Karnataka cricket is immense and we wish him the best always,” he quoted.

Stalwart of Karnataka cricket

During his stint with the Karnataka team, Uthappa has played 101 First Class matches and has aggregated 6865 runs. He has mustered 18 centuries and 33 half centuries to go with 102 catches to his name. Uthappa could score only one century in the previous edition though, that saw his exclusion from the lineup.
