After leading India to a 3-0 series win over Windies on 11th November, Rohit Sharma achieved a rare feat as a captain. India beat Windies in the very last delivery to clinch a thriller at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India had the series sealed to their name in the second T20I in Lucknow. By winning the T20I series, India won the Test, ODI, and the T20I series convincingly.
The victory was Rohit Sharma’s 11th in 12 T20Is that he has captained, the most wins by any skipper, leaving behind Michael Clarke, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed and Asghar Afghan who won 10 of their first 12 T20Is. The right-handed batsman also created a record of winning two T20I series by a 3-0 scoreline, leaving behind his fellow countrymen, Virat Kohli and former captain MS Dhoni.
He won for his team a series against Sri Lanka with the same margin in December 2017. The match on Sunday went down to the wire as the result of the match was decided in the last ball of the match when Manish Pandey was batting with a single required.
India gun down a mammoth score with ridiculous ease
Earlier in the first innings, Windies were powered by Nicholas Pooran’s blazing half-century to a competitive score of 181. In spite of two early wickets of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, India gunned a mammoth target of 182 off the last ball, riding on Shikhar Dhawan’s and Rishabh Pant’s half-centuries.
Windies, this time delivered with the bat, however, their bowlers failed to deliver the goods with the ball. Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a partnership of 130 for the third wicket and threatened to complete the chase with a little more than an over to spare. The Windies did exceptionally well to run the home team close.
