Yesterday, Gautam Gambhir, the Delhi-born cricketer made the announcement of his retirement from all forms of cricket. He didn’t have the best of times in the last few years as he was in and out of the Indian cricket team. This year, after being appointed as the skipper of the Delhi franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the experienced campaigner was freed of his services.

Nevertheless, he made a strong comeback and wielded his magic with the bat in hand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he inspired Delhi to the final against Mumbai. Nevertheless, the 37-year-old has eventually run out of patience and called it quits. He released a video in which he explained his situation and also thanked his near and dear ones for standing by him in his tough times.

In the meantime, Rohit Sharma, the Indian top-order batsman heaped praise on Gambhir and lauded him for his stupendous journey in international cricket. The 31-year-old took to Twitter and wrote, “It’s been an absolute honour to play alongside you and against you. Congratulations on a phenomenal career and I wish you a happy retirement, @GautamGambhir.”

Rohit for opening Test?

Rohit is currently in Australia where the Indian team is scheduled to play a four-match Test series against Tim Paine and Co. Earlier Rohit made a comeback to the Test setup after his shambolic campaign in South Africa earlier this year. He wasn’t included in the series against England and Windies that took place in August and October respectively.

To add to his delight, he has also been included in the 12-man squad for the opening Test, which will get underway at the renowned Adelaide Oval. However, it is yet not known whether he would feature in the eleven or not as a toss-up between him and Andhra Pradesh batsman Hanuma Vihari is expected to happen for the slot in the middle-order.
