The bowler achieved the landmark with the all important wicket of the Indian captain Virat Kohli who was looking really dangerous today. Interestingly, after the wicket the Indian opener Rohit Sharma who was Kohli’s batting partner went on to give Malinga a hug and congratulating the pacer for his achievement.

The incident happened in the 30th over when Virat was on 131. In the third delivery of the over, the Sri Lankan skipper bowled a full wide ball to which Kohli reached out and drove in the air. The ball, instead of going to the boundary went straight away into the hands of sweeper cover boundary. Malinga had got his 300th ODI wicket and celebrated it by raising his arms aloft. As Kohli was leaving the field, Rohit who was in the middle hugged the veteran bowler who was also his teammate at the Mumbai Indians in IPL and wished him for his record.

Malinga and Sri Lanka struggling in the series

The pacer is currently in the middle of a lean patch as he took 4 matches to get two wickets. He completed the milestone of 300 wickets in the 203rd ODI of his career. Of late, owing to injuries Malinga has only been playing the shorter formats of the game due to injuries.
