Rohit Sharma humbled to be named La Liga's first-ever brand ambassador in India

The Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División, which is the top tier men’s professional football division of the Spanish football league system, is one of the most followed ones in the world along with the English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A, and American MLS.
It sees a total of 62 teams have participated in the league since its inception in 1929, with Real Madrid winning it 33 times and Barcelona becoming champions 26 times.
In India, the league is gathering a huge following thanks to stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo and others have played for various teams over the years. Currently, 20 teams contest in the league in order to become champions and the craze of the league in the country is set to elevate to next level with La Liga signing Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma as their brand ambassador in the country.

“Hola India/España, as you guys know, football has always held a special place in my heart so this association is so special to me. And to be named the ambassador for the La Liga is so humbling. So excited for this partnership @LaLigaEN,” Rohit Sharma tweeted. He had revealed that he supports Spain before the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and this is part of the league’s efforts to gain entry into Indian markets since 2017.

“I am truly delighted to be associated with La Liga. It’s encouraging to see the Spanish giant have made inroads into the Indian football ecosystem through their grassroots program. Personally, I see this as an interesting journey for me into the beautiful game with La Liga. I look forward eagerly to connecting with the football fans in India,” Rohit was quoted as saying by news18.com.

A Real Madrid club fan, Rohit Sharma recently became the first Indian and fastest overall batsman to hit 400 international sixes, achieving the landmark in his 354th match, during the third T20I against West Indies in his home ground of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
