Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Alzarri Joseph knocked the wind out of Sunrisers Hyderabad by picking up the best bowling figures in IPL history- 6/12 and helped MI defend a modest total of 136 runs on a tricky pitch in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 6.
SRH were bowled out for 96 runs as Joseph ran riot with searing pace and Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians won a close game. The 22-year-old fast bowler from Antigua rewrote the Indian Premier League record books as he dethroned Sohail Tanvir, who had taken 6/14 in IPL 2008. It proved to be a dream debut for Joseph, who replaced Lasith Malinga in the MI team.
“I don’t celebrate wickets, I celebrate wins,” says Alzarri Joseph in an interview
“It’s unbelievable. It’s a dream start. I don’t think it could get any better. I just wanted to go out and put all my effort into this team. It was my first game, I just wanted to get out there on the park and get bowling and get the wickets,” Joseph was quoted saying in an interview with his MI skipper Rohit Sharma for the iplt20.com.
Alzarri Joseph picked the wicket of Orange Cap holder David Warner with the first ball of his over on debut and later mentioned that he trusted his preparation while running into bowl to the Sunrisers skipper. Rohit Sharma was highly impressed with the 22-year-old fast bowler and more by his attitude towards the game.
“I don’t really celebrate wickets, I celebrate wins. My aim isn’t just to get wickets but to win the game for my team. It’s not something I really play for. I only play for wins, not the limelight. It’s a good feeling but I want to win this tournament [for Mumbai Indians],” Joseph had spoken in the interview.
Rohit Sharma liked the focus of the young fast bowler and took to Twitter to comment, “He may come across as a simple guy who’s not very expressive but he has fire in his belly. His last statement was..”
