Rohit Sharma led the Indian team to sensational victory in the ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka at home, in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli. Rohit has been in an astounding touch in the calendar year scoring tons of runs in the limited overs format of the game. He has now been tagged as a limited overs specialist batsman to have featured in the entertaining game of cricket. Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil feels that the limited overs opener is a much superior batsman than the Indian captain Virat Kohli at the moment.

Recently, Sharma recorded his third double ton in the second ODI against Lanka at Mohali, which is a rare and praiseworthy feat to achieve at this level of the game. He also scored the fastest Twenty20 century in just 35 balls equalling the previous record of South African batsman David Miller. His performance and ability to hit the ball through the line is absolutely exemplary and admirable.

He is better than Kohli at the moment

Patil stated that he is not being arrogant to the huge fan following of the Indian skipper but his deputy and the opening batsman is a better player in the limited overs format currently. The former cricketer revealed that Virat is surely a great batsman with no doubts but Rohit has performed very well in this format of the game. He believes that the opener is very much in a different league at the moment.

“Virat Kohli fans might not like it but I have to say Rohit Sharma is currently the better batsman. Virat is definitely a great batsman, no doubt about it. He is India’s best Test batsman but when it comes to limited overs cricket, Rohit is ahead of him,” said Patil in a conversation with ABP News.

The former Indian all-rounder said that Kohli will definitely score lot of runs when he returns in South Africa. The regular Indian skipper is currently enjoying a much need rest from the hectic cricketing schedule in the recent months. Sandeep also stated the fact that in Kohli’s absence from the side, Rohit has been in an unbelievable form and it does not matter whether he is playing as captain or as a batsman.

“I’m sure Virat’ going to come back from break and score lots of runs in South Africa but when we talk about limited overs cricket this year, Rohit has been unbelievable. People may say he has played more matches against Sri Lanka but so has Virat. Whether he is playing only as a batsman or as captain Rohit has proved he is best at the moment,” concluded the former Indian cricketer.
