Indian limited-overs opener Rohit Sharma is all set to make his comeback prior to the ODI and T20I series against England after fully recuperating from his injury. Sharma had injured himself during the 5th ODI between India and New Zealand in October which forced him to miss the Test series against England. According to reports, the naturally gifted stroke-maker will be included in Mumbai’s squad to take Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 semi-final at Rajkot.

Sharma was in a rich vein of form when he sustained the injury. He had scored 238 runs in the Test series against New Zealand at an impressive average of 79.33. In the last ODI he played before getting injured, he scored a free flowing 70 not before he damaged his right upper quadricep tendons in his right leg. He underwent a surgery last month and was expected to be out of action for further 6 to 8 weeks but his early return will surely bolster India’s chances in the limited overs series against England.

A BCCI release had earlier confirmed that Rohit will undergo a surgery in early November. “He (Rohit) will travel to London early next week for a specialist consultation with the possibility of undergoing surgery, as a result of which he may miss at least 10 to 12 weeks of cricket. The BCCI medical team will extend all support to Rohit Sharma to regain full fitness and further contribute to Indian Cricket.”

During an exclusive chat with India Today, Rohit admitted that the injury came at an inappropriate time. “The injury was disappointing and (it was) bad timing. I was going well. But, I have to keep my spirits high. I will bounce back. I tried to give myself more time against New Zealand in Tests. I have been trying for long.” He had said.

The limited-overs leg of the India-England series will kick off at Pune on 15th January with the ODI series followed by the T20 series. The tour concludes on 1st February.
