Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been reprimanded by the match referee for showing dissent at an umpiring decision during the 7th match of IPL 10 between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai according to an IPL press release. The incident took place during the final delivery of the 10th over when the Mumbai Indians captain was given out by onfield umpire Nandan.
It was definitely not a correct decision but the reaction of Sharma wasn’t in the spirit of the game either but one has to keep in mind the intensity of the tournament and these things happen. Sharma literally smashed an outside the off stump delivery from Sunil Narine on to his pads but to the utter shock of Rohit the umpire gave it out. It was a howler and the commentators also lashed out at the umpire.
Kevin Pietersen who was present at the comm box during the incident said reviews should be there in IPL and irrespective of anything such a decision cannot be acceptable. It was definitely not one of the best decision but given the immense crowd noise in the Wankhede, these things tend to happen. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 wickets and with a delivery to spare to get off the mark in Vivo IPL 10.
