Rohit Sharma’s career has witnessed exemplary rise since donning the opener’s role. The swashbuckling batsman has etched many records after being promoted up the order. Along with international success, Rohit has even tasted triumph in the IPL by steering Mumbai Indians to four titles.

Rohit has donned the Indian jersey in 224 ODIs, 108 T20Is, and 32 Tests so far, where he has gathered 14029 runs across all three formats. He also has three double tons under his name in One-day Internationals. Considering his technique, talent and ability to score substantial knocks, Rohit ultimately paved his way to becoming a modern-day great.

Recently, Suresh Raina, who has been out from the Indian side for a while now, heaped praise on Rohit and also claimed him to be the next MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy.

Raina told South Africa’s former cricketer JP Duminy during The Super Over Podcast, “I would say that he (Rohit) is the next MS Dhoni for the Indian cricket team. I have seen him, he is calm, he likes to listen, he likes to give confidence to the players and on top of that, he likes to lead from the front. When the captain leads from the front and at the same time gives respect to the dressing room atmosphere, you know you have it all.”

I believe comparisons should not be made: Rohit Sharma

Rohit, in a Question & Answer session on his Twitter on Sunday, took many questions and also responded to Raina’s bold statement. The question was– “Raina recently made a comparison between Dhoni and you. Can you explain what you see as the most important elements of your captaincy style and how you differ from other captains?”

To this, the Mumbai Indians skipper responded by saying, “Yes, I heard about that comment from Suresh Raina. MS Dhoni is one of a kind and nobody can be like him and I believe comparisons should not be made like that, every individual is different and has his strengths and weaknesses.”

Rohit is often compared with Dhoni due to the success which both the Indian stalwarts have achieved with their respective IPL franchises. Rohit is the most successful captain in IPL history with 4 titles while Dhoni is second on the list with 3.

It will be interesting to see how both the skippers perform in the thirteenth edition of the IPL, slated to be held in UAE in the September-November window. The sports ministry has given permission for staging the T20 extravaganza in the UAE at a time when the pandemic is wreaking havoc across India. The much-awaited tournament is planned from September 19 to November 10 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
