The general elections in India are just around the corner. The elections this time collide with the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the BCCI is also wanting to host the tournament at home. This is an important election with a huge number of people set out to be first time voters. Thus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to spread awareness amongst the people through sportsmen who enjoy tremendous following.

The honourable Prime Minister had a special request for cricketers MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He tweeted to this trio to inspire the 130 crore people of India to go and set a record of the highest voter turnout in the upcoming election.

“Dear @msdhoni, @imVkohli and @ImRo45, You are always setting outstanding records on the cricketing field but this time, do inspire the 130 crore people of India to set a new record of high voter turnout in the upcoming elections. When this happens, democracy will be the winner,” Narendra Modi tweeted.

Voting is the most important tool for the better future of our country

Rohit was the first of the three cricketers to respond. He didn’t take much time to reply and emphasised on the importance of polling. The 31-year-old noted that voting is the most important tool for the better future of the country. He further wrote that it is our responsibility to take the process seriously and cast our votes.

“Voting is the most important tool for a better future for our beloved country. It’s our responsibility to ensure we take that seriously and cast our vote @narendramodi,” the Indian opener wrote in his tweet.

After the conclusion of the Australia ODI series, Rohit will be leading the Mumbai Indians in the IPL this season. His team will be in action on 24th March 2019 for the game against Delhi Capitals.
