Rohit Sharma unveils his new haircut on Twitter

Star India opener Rohit Sharma’s services were missed in the one-off T20 against the West Indies at Sabina Park on Sunday. He would have fancied his chances on a flat wicket and short boundaries in Jamaica. West Indies overhauled the steep target of 190 with as many as 9 wickets in hand and as many deliveries to spare.

Rested for the WI tour

Rohit was injured for almost 5 months after he pulled a muscle against New Zealand in October. He made a brief comeback for his state side Mumbai but was again hit by another injury. The Mumbaikar, after months of rehabilitation, finally made a comeback in the IPL. After proving his fitness to the selectors, Rohit was drafted in the Champions Trophy squad where he scored heavily averaging 76 in five innings. The 30-year old was rested for the Caribbean tour as a precautionary measure in order to allow the batsman to recuperate after playing three months of nonstop cricket straight after the injury.

The opener had recently made a style statement by shaving his beard off during the IPL. The trend was started by Hardik Pandya who hashtagged it as #BreakTheBeard. Rohit Sharma was seen making another style statement today. This time it wasn’t about the beard, it was about his new hairstyle. He took to Twitter to reveal his new hairstyle. He captioned the picture as: “Much needed haircut”.

Another opportunity in Test cricket

Looks like Rohit has enjoyed his time away from the cricket. He will be rejuvenated and fresh for India’s next assignment which is in Sri Lanka later in the month. Due to his solid showings in England, India selectors picked him in the Test squad at the expense of Karun Nair.

Though Rohit is a regular member of the limited over squads, he still has a long way to go in cementing his place in the Test line-up. The tour of Sri Lanka might present him with another opportunity to stake his claim in the Indian middle order.
