BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to make an emphatic comeback amid their rough patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Runs have dried up for the duo and questions are being raised from fans and experts from different corners. While Rohit has failed to convert his starts into big scores, Kohli is enduring a horrendous run, having scored 128 runs in nine matches with a couple of golden ducks.

Although Ganguly believes the former Indian skipper will overcome this rough patch, he admitted that he doesn’t know what’s wrong with the 33-year-old. Meanwhile, Rohit and Kohli must get back among the runs sooner than later as India’s upcoming schedule is jam-packed. Also, a couple of World Cups will be held within a year’s time.

Don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head: Sourav Ganguly

“They (Rohit and Kohli) are great players and I am sure they will get back in form. I hope they start scoring runs soon. I don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head but I am sure he will regain his form and get some good runs. He is a great player,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by News18.

On being asked about this season’s IPL, Ganguly said he’s mighty impressed with Sunrisers Hyderabad speedster Umran Malik, who has been clocking over 150 kmph on a consistent basis. He also lavished praises on the likes of Umesh Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed.

“Oh, it’s very interesting, I am watching [the IPL]. Any team can win and everyone is playing well. The two new teams – Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants – are doing well. Umran Malik’s bowling has been eye-catching. Umesh Yadav too has bowled well and so has Khaleel Ahmed. I would say Umran Malik has been the outstanding face of the league so far,” said Ganguly.

Meanwhile, Ganguly aims to increase the crowd capacity at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as IPL 2022 playoff matches will take place at the iconic venue. “We have to increase the capacity of Eden Gardens. Now it’s [the capacity] around 67,000 and we have to make it 1 Lakh. Eden Gardens is an old stadium and we have to upgrade it,” asserted the former Indian skipper.
