Rohit Sharma's pep-talk made us more determined to win the match: Shreyas Iyer

The pep-talk seemed to work like magic when the break got over as Shivam Dube (3/30) and Deepak Chahar (6/7) tore apart the Bangladesh batting unit to inflict a 30-run loss on the visitors.

Team India pulled off a miraculous win from the jaws of defeat to deny the Bangladesh Tigers from registering a maiden T20I series win against the Men in Blue. And, it really was a team effort from every stretch of the imagination. Going into the decider, India had opted to bolster their batting unit by bringing in Manish Pandey in place of all-rounder Krunal Pandya; a move which basically meant that they essentially had just five bowling options; two of them being the out-of-form Khaleel Ahmed and the inexperienced Shivam Dube.

With so much dew coming to the ground, the spin duo of Chahal and Washington Sundar was rendered ineffective and with Mohammad Naim (81) going great guns and Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah to follow, India needed their fast bowlers to pull their socks up. During drinks break, captain Rohit Sharma was seen in an animated discussion with his teammates where he was seen pointing towards his badge.

“I just reminded them this (pointing towards the badge on the jersey) is what we are playing for. I can understand when wickets are not falling, it’s hard to pick ourselves up,” Rohit had said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Rohit recalled all players, says Shreyas Iyer

The pep-talk seemed to work like magic when the break got over as Shivam Dube (3/30) and Deepak Chahar (6/7) tore apart the Bangladesh batting unit to inflict a 30-run loss on the visitors. And, now Shreyas Iyer has also echoed the same emotions. While speaking to the reporters in the post-match press conference, Iyer revealed how the team was feeling pressure and how Rohit Sharma’s pep-talk made them determined more-than-ever.

“Yeah, we were feeling the pressure. We know they are a good side and there is no team that you can underestimate in the shortest format. And in the previous two games, we saw that they played a mesmerizing brand of cricket. We were going little lethargic at the start, but once they started going, Rohit recalled all players inside the circle, he gave us a pep talk and after that, all of us got determined to win the match,” Iyer said as quoted by Deccan Chronicle.
