The entire cricketing universe took notice as Indian captain Virat Kohli played one of his best Test knocks in the first Test against England at Edgbaston. The Indian fans just went on a different level talking about it and the entire buzz on social media was about ‘King Kohli’. Amidst all that former Sri Lankan cricketer Russel Arnold posted a tweet which earned him a lot of bashing and trolls.

It was an innings that will be remembered for a really long time as it didn’t just serve Kohli’s individual purpose but pulled his the team out of a huge pit of troubles. At one stage India were five down with 100 runs on the board and nowhere in sight of England’s first innings score. Things got worse when Mohammed Shami was dismissed and the team total was 182 for the loss of 8 wickets. The skipper then had two immensely crucial partnerships.

His partners Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav hardly got the strike – he shielded them for at least five balls on most occasions but they also played out an entire over when it came to it. Kohli converted his fifty into a magnificent hundred but realizing that the job wasn’t done yet kept going with even better intent.

He had a 35-run partnership with Sharma for the 9th wicket and shared 57 runs with Yadav for the last wicket stand. India were 13 runs short of England’s first innings score when he played a false shot and was caught on 149. The day wasn’t done yet and with just 4 overs to be played Kohli handed the ball to his two best bowlers and Ravichandran Ashwin once again dismissed Alastair Cook in a reply of the first innings to give India the advantage at stumps on day 2.

Arnold drew a lot of flak with his tweets, he first wrote- “What’s going on ?? So many cricket tweets flying around,”

And then, “Oh…. is there a match on ???”

Twitterati was in no mode to spare him and they just rolled him over.
