Veteran administrator Russell Adams is set to end a nine-year stint with IPL in India to take up the position of tournament director for the inaugural T20 Global League, to be hosted by Cricket South Africa. Before this, he was the Vice President of Commercial Operations and Cricket Academy at Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, his first stint in the IPL was not with them. He cut his teeth as Venue Manager at Chennai before moving on to KKR where he also was a consultant for their CSR/Cricket Academy.

Confirming Russell’s appointment today, CSA said that he is a known professional in the global cricket fraternity and has a wide experience in sports management. Adams starts his new role in August and is looking forward to returning to South Africa, his place of birth.

He has had various stints with the South African teams. He was a Cricket Manager at the Western Province Cricket Association. Adams then followed it up with a stint as the Team and Operations Manager of the Nashua Cape Cobras cricket franchise and was appointed the Project Manager at Newlands Cricket Ground for the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 South Africa 2007 tournament. Way before this, he was a logistics manager at the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa

Excited to be back in SA

“I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my career and to be given the opportunity to be part of the exciting T20 Global League,” said Adams. “Although I’ve been working abroad for close to a decade now, I’ve always wanted to come back to South Africa and contribute positively to the sports and cricket environment in our wonderful country,” he added.

“The T20 Global League is a unique opportunity for me to do just that and use my experience to further enhance and build a world-class T20 competition,” Adams further said.

CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat welcomed Adams’ appointment in the T20 Global League, the newest addition to the arena of International T20 leagues.

“His experience for the last ten years with the IPL and his qualifications and passion for the game makes him an ideal person for the job. We have every confidence in Russell and we are thrilled to have him as part of the T20 Global League senior team,” Lorgat said.
