Ryan Maron roped in as assistant coach by Cricket West Indies

Maron has played 18 first class matches and a single List-A game in his career as a player.

The West Indies national team has got a new assistant coach after former Western Province player Ryan Maron was roped in by the Cricket West Indies for the job. The 42-year-old has been brought in as a replacement for Andre Coley and he will now have to combine with Roddy Estwick and Toby Radford under head coach Stuart Law.

Maron’s coaching career boasts of two different campaigns. He coached South Africa’s domestic side Dolphins and was also the fielding specialist for Afghanistan. Maron has played 18 first class matches and a single List-A game in his career as a player.

“This is a massive privilege to be involved in West Indies cricket and I’m delighted to join the Windies coaching staff,” Maron said on his appointment. “I have followed West Indies cricket over the years as a kid and then as a player and a coach and I’m just happy to be offered this opportunity to make a contribution as a coach.

“The game in the West Indies has a great history and here in this group we have a young bunch of cricketers who will perform well,” he added. “I’m also looking forward to working with the ODI and T20 sides as we look to climb back up the ladder in world cricket.”

Maron will begin his tenure when West Indies lock horns with England in a three-match Test series on August 17.

Jimmy Adams, CWI’s director of cricket, welcomed Maron showering praise on him. Adams said that Maron’s knowledge about the game will be plus for the team and they are more than happy to have him on board. “We are pleased to have Ryan join us. He has a vast knowledge of the game and has done some very good work. As we prepare for the upcoming Wisden Trophy Test Series in England and I am sure he will be a great addition to the coaching staff.”
