India A recorded yet another poor day in the unofficial Test series against South Africa A as they got bowled for just 120 in their first innings. The home side decided to bat again instead of enforcing the follow-on and ended the 2nd day at 66/0 in their 2nd innings. Their lead extended to 292 runs with a handful amount of time left in the game.

India A started the day well by bowling out the home side to 346, who were placed well at 274/4 after day 1. The overnight batsmen Beuran Hendricks and Khaya Zondo both got run out in space of 11 balls shortly after they crossed the 300-run mark. Shahbaz Nadeem and Mohammed Siraj, who were the only bowlers for India A to take wickets on day 1, remained the same on day 2 as well. Both picked up 4-wicket hauls to wrap up the innings. This was Nadeem’s 34th instance where he picked up 4 or more wickets in first-class cricket while it was 5th one for Siraj, who was playing only his 12th FC game.

India A got off to a worst possible start as Ravikumar Samarth got run out on the very first ball while the other opener Ishan Kishan too bagged a duck as he was dismissed by Hendricks on the very first ball he faced. Shreyas Iyer made a positive start to his innings by scoring 31 off 32 balls with 5 fours and a six before giving a return catch to Hendricks.

Junior Dala struck in the next over to send back Sudip Chatterjee while Hendricks, in his next over, saw the dismissal of Ankit Bawne as the Indian A side lost half the side for just 42 runs by the 11th over. Captain Karun Nair tried to rescue his squad but was dismissed by Dane Piedt after scoring only 15 runs. Vijay Shankar, who made 26 off 63 balls with 3 fours was retired hurt and didn’t return after the Tea break. Nadeem’s 21 didn’t make any impact as Piedt bagged two more wickets to wrap up the 10-men Indian batting line-up for just 120 runs.

Brief scores:

South Africa A 1st innings 346/10 (Stephen Cook 120, David Miller 78, Mohammed Siraj 4/61)

India A 1st innings 120/10 (Shreyas Iyer 31, Vijay Shankar 25 r.h., Beuran Hendricks 3/23)
