South Africa will host the tournament as preparation for the Under-19s World Cup starting in mid-January. New Zealand is placed in Group A of that tournament alongside India, Sri Lanka and Japan. New Zealand U19s suffered series losses against Australia and Bangladesh in the last six months while Zimbabwe will feature in a Youth International for the first time since 2018.
