The second Test between South Africa and Bangladesh is currently in progress at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth. The hosts have dominated the proceedings and are well on their way to set a mammoth target for Bangladesh in the second innings. This is also a great chance for them to strengthen their second position in the World Test Championship points table with a win in this Test match. However, amidst all the action a weird incident took place at the start of South Africa’s second innings on Sunday (April 10).

After bundling out the visitors for just 217 runs in their first innings, South Africa decided not to enforce the follow-on and accordingly, their openers Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee walked out to bat. Bangladesh needed early wickets to have any chance to make a comeback in the game and the chance was created in the first over itself.

Off the second ball of the innings, Ebadot Hossain bowled a full and wide delivery asking to be hit. Erwee, the batter on strike, went on the back foot to cut it to backward point. However, he couldn’t keep the ball down and the ball went straight to Mehidy Hasan who was fielding there. However, he didn’t spot the ball coming at him at all. He thought the red cherry is going past him and was looking elsewhere and only realised when the ball hit his stomach.

Mehidy went down in excruciating pain after the ball hit him and the physio had to attend to him for quite some time before the cricketer recollected his thoughts and agreed to field again. It was a bizarre incident that the all-rounder couldn’t spot the ball which was coming towards him and Bangladesh certainly grassed an easy chance to get an early wicket.

Here’s the video:

What has happened in the match so far?

As far as the match is concerned, South Africa posted a mammoth 453 runs on the board in their first innings after opting to bat. A collective bowling effort helped them skittle the visitors for just 217 runs and gain a huge lead. Surprisingly, Dean Elgar and his troops decided to bat again and pile on the agony on the opposition and it remains to be seen when South Africa declare their second innings.
