South Africa’s premier fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will not be part of the ODI series against India as the former had to go through an immense workload. The 26-year-old was expected to lead the pace attack for the Proteas until Cricket South Africa released him from the squad and there won’t be replacements for the right-arm quick. Rabada had not been in the best of forms coming into the Test series against India, but he proved his worth in the side with match-turning spells at the Wanderers in the second Test.

With 20 wickets in three Tests, Rabada finished as the highest wicket-taker in the Test series against India at an average of 19.05 and looked to have found his old touch back with the ball. It is true that Rabada has been continuously part of cricketing action since the IPL started where he played for the Delhi Capitals. He was a certainty in the T20 World Cup 2021 and bowled his heart out in the Test series as well.

George Linde retained from the Test squad

It has been learnt from the sources of ESPNcricinfo that all-rounder George Linde, who was part of the Test squad against India, has been retained for the ODI series. Rabada is an experienced campaigner and is one of the best quicks going around the world at the moment. His numbers in the format are exceptional with 126 wickets in 82 ODIs at an average of 27.9 and is expected to be a huge miss for the ODI series against India.

“Proteas seam bowler, Kagiso Rabada, has been released from the team for the upcoming series against India due to high workloads over a sustained period of time. No replacement will be brought in for him: Cricket South Africa #CricketTwitter #INDvSA #SAvIND” a popular fan posted on Twitter

However, the Proteas squad does have the likes of Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Wayne Parnell in their bowling department and they have the capability to do the job in place of Rabada. South Africa has already missed the services of Anrich Norje in the series due to an injury as the first ODI is scheduled to start on the 19th of January.
