South Africa and India are currently fighting it out in the second of the three-match ODI series. The hosts are leading the series having won the opening game by 31 runs. India skipper KL Rahul opted to bat first after winning and got the team off to a good start with Shikhar Dhawan. However, run-scoring became tough once spinners were introduced into the attack.

The duo of Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj bowled tight lines to build pressure on the Indian batters. It lead to wickets of Dhawan and Virat Kohli in quick succession. South Africa would’ve got the third wicket as well had they grabbed the run-out chance offered by KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

It all happened on the last delivery of the 15th over off the bowling of Maharaj. Pant tucked the ball to the left of mid-wicket fielder Temba Bavuma and called for a single. Rahul trusted his partner and responded to the call quickly. But Bavuma was quick to collect the ball which led to Pant stopping at the middle of the pitch and return to his crease.

Both the batters were stranded at one end with KL Rahul certain of losing his wicket. However, there was more comedy happening at the other end. Bavuma threw the ball quickly to Maharaj which the latter failed to collect and even the back-up fielder couldn’t collect the ball cleanly. It gave a chance to KL Rahul to run back to his crease and the skipper was not happy with Pant at all.

He stared back at his partner and had some words to say as well. However, it was all fine in some time as there was no damage done. A wicket at that stage would’ve put India under a huge pressure. But South Africa missed a great opportunity.

Virat Kohli bags a duck

Meanwhile, the wait for Virat Kohli’s elusive 71st century continued as the former India skipper bagged a five-ball duck. He was troubled by Keshav Maharaj off the first few overs and ended up driving a ball in the air to the short cover fielder.
