Sabbir Rahman is slowly becoming a usual name in Bangladeshi cricket. His aggression, or perhaps the excess of it, in the ongoing BPL season has caused him a lot of problems. The Bangladeshi national is known to carry his heart on his sleeve. Today he was slapped a 30 per cent fine from his BPL contract fees for disciplinary breach.
Rahman, who plays for Rajshahi Kings, has apparently been fined for an off-field altercation with bowler Al-Amin Hossain. Al-Amin is plying his trade for the Barisal Bulls in the ongoing BPL. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not release any detailed report of why the two players have been fined.
However, they mentioned in their press release that both Sabbir Rahman and Al-Amin Hossain have been found guilty of an off-field disciplinary breach. “A Governing Council investigation has found both players guilty of serious off-field disciplinary breaches during the current tournament,” a BCB press release read.
While Rahman has managed to escape with a 30 per cent fine, Al-Amin faced the major whip of 50 per cent fine. “As a consequence, Al-Amin has been penalised 50% of his BPL contract fees while Shabbir has been fined 30% of his BPL contract amount,” the release added.
Both players were placed in Grade A+ in the BPL player draft. Rahman was bought by Rajshahi Kings for Tk 40 lakh (approximately USD 50,000), while Al-Amin was retained by Barisal Bulls for Tk 25 lakh (approximately USD 31,000).
The press statement also mentioned that the players have been warned now. They are expected to stay in limits from now on and follow the protocol. “The players have been reminded of their responsibility as national cricketers and have been warned that any repeat of similar acts of indiscretion in the future will result in harsher penalty,” said the statement.
Earlier, Rahman was also involved in an altercation on the field with the Rangpur Riders wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad. During the match between Rajshahi Kings and Rangpur Riders, Rahman strolled in to bat at number 3. Without having even faced a ball, Rahman had a few words exchanged with the Afghan national.
Sabbir was soon seen in high temper as he even lifted his bat indicating a physical attack gesture. The players and umpires intervened the scene came to a standstill.
