Earlier this month, Bangladesh all-rounder Sabbir Rahman received a ban for a six month period from domestic cricket for assaulting a fan in Rajshahi. He was stripped of the national contract, and also imposed with a hefty fine of Tk 20 lakh. The 26-year-old lost his cool after a supporter instigated him with noises during an innings break on the second day of Rajshahi Division’s National Cricket League game against Dhaka Metropolis.

However, Sabir who is currently practising for the upcoming Tri-nation series told reporters that he wants to move on from the past and make an impact. Bangladesh will host neighbours Sri Lanka and minnows Zimbabwe with the first match of the tri-series set to kickoff tomorrow.

Sabbir to stay his aggressive self

Sabbir’s aggressive nature has got him in trouble many times, however, he is not ready to compromise on his aggression which has already earned him three demerit points.

Speaking of his preparations for the future, Rahman said, “It has had a huge impact on me at a personal level, but as a professional cricketer, I treat it past is past, I am trying to recover from it, and not let it affect me in the tri-series,” Sabbir said.

He added, “I am an aggressive player and I always like to remain that way. I am not thinking too much about the demerit points because there is no problem whether it is 1 or 10, all that matters [for me] is performing well in the series.”

Been out of form lately

Sabbir admitted that he has been out of form lately but has worked on playing spin and is keen to make a strong comeback.

“I might have had some poor performances of late but I am well prepared. I have tried to strengthen my weak points. I will try to do well in the upcoming matches. I worked on playing spin; playing off the front foot. I want to make a strong comeback,” he said.
