West Indies won the World T20 2016 defeating England on Sunday evening for the second time. The West Indians repeated the feat of their women’s team by doing so. This was also the second title for West Indian captain Darren Sammy who had earlier led West Indies to the title in 2012 in Sri Lanka.

During the award presentation ceremony, Darren Sammy gave a very emotional speech during a chat with commentator and former England captain Nasser Hussain. Sammy was elated at the win and thanked everyone who supported the West Indian team. He said that,” I personally also want to thank the coaching staff, coach Phil, he’s been through a lot, and to come here and the way he’s coached the team, he’s just brilliant. We had a new manager in this tournament in Rawl Lewis, he had never managed any team before.”

He continued that Lewis was the one who worked hard to get the uniforms ready for the whole team by coming to Kolkata early and all the trouble he took to get the team into the uniform, Sammy thanked Lewis and all the fans in the Caribbean.

He continued his speech and during the speech said something that the WICB have not taken kindly. Sammy said that he thanked the CARICOM for the support and also said that they haven’t received any call of any kind from the WICB on their win.

Many former cricketing greats have come out in support of Darren Sammy’s speech and showed their support by tweeting on social media platform Twitter. Here are some tweets in support of Sammy’s emotional speech:
