Sachin Tendulkar celebrates wife Anjali's 54th birthday with family in famous Gujarati restaurant

Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar celebrated wife Anjali’s birthday at a Gujarati restaurant on November 10. Anjali, who celebrated her 54th birthday, tied the knots with Sachin in 1995. Their daughter Sara Tendulkar was also seen alongside other family members enjoying a traditional meal.

“Had a સરસ Gujarati thali at Shree Thaker Bhojnalay to celebrate Anjali’s birthday. Her Gujju genes are strong but our jeans’ buttons were weak after this meal! Also, was amazed to learn that this restaurant is running since 1945,” Tendulkar wrote on Instagram.

Notably, Tendulkar was recently named amongst the 50 most influential people in annual research conducted by Brandwatch, an intelligence company. The research cited Tendulkar’s “appreciable real work for the less fortunate, lending his voice and presence for the right causes, his inspired fans following his work and his partner brands’ relevant impactful campaigns” as the cause behind his inclusion.

Tendulkar also lent a helping hand to Makunda Christian Leprosy and General Hospital in a noble cause, as he decided to donate retinal cameras used to identify Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a condition that can cause blindness among preterm newborn babies.

Dr Shajin, the Managing Director and Consultant Pediatrician at the Makunda Hospital, thanked Tendulkar for his gesture. “Although it’s indicated for all high-risk preterm babies, most often our babies don’t end up having their ROP screening, as most of our patients are from nearby tea gardens and other less fortunate communities around and do not have the means to travel all the way to Guwahati,” said Dr Shajin, as quoted by Latestly.

“We are thankful to the Sachin Tendulkar foundation for coming to our rescue in getting this device which will go a long way in helping a lot of premature babies, getting treated in our hospital from the rural communities in and around us,” said Shajin.

After retiring from cricket, Sachin has served as a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha and has been a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the BCCI. He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2019 and has mentored Mumbai Indians apart from keeping himself occupied with multiple philanthropist activities and raising social awareness.

In February 2014, the legendary batsman was bestowed with the highest civilian honour of India i.e. the Bharat Ratna. Aged only 40 then, he became the youngest recipient and the first sportsperson ever to receive the award.
