It is no secret that Sachin Tendulkar had many myths about losing his wicket while batting. In fact, most batsmen around the world have come out with perhaps some of the craziest stories about the superstitions they follow while batting. One of the craziest such stories goes on to enumerate that former South African cricketer Neil McKenzie used to tape his bat to the ceiling a day before he went out to bat.
However, there was one thing that Sachin Tendulkar always did while he batted. Whilst batting, it seemed as though he was nodding. Nobody knew what the nod was for or why he did it. Yet, they did it anyway. As Vikram Sathye rightly pointed out, the parents would think that Sachin was reborn in the family.
Speaking to Sathye on his cricket show ‘On the Duck’, Tendulkar finally revealed what exactly was going on behind the scenes as he came clean about what exactly was happening with the nod. The 42-year old explained that the cumbersome helmet straps proved to be extremely uncomfortable for him and he usually used tape so that it never came off and that he would also be able to fit his head into the helmet.

The former India batsman also went on to say that the nodding only became a habit in the later stage of his career. However, Tendulkar stated that the nod came when his eyes used to get blocked by the space between the cap and the grill, something that he could only shrug off by the inadvertent nod. Moreover, the fact of the matter is that this was a terrible habit developed by Tendulkar. What’s worse is the fact that he was copied by one and all especially given his large fan base.
Tendulkar also went on to illustrate an incident when he began nodding at Harbhajan Singh while batting against him in the nets.
