The year 2016 in Indian cinema has quite effectively been the year of cricketing biopics. The first one to grace the grandstand silver screen was the one on Mohammad Azharuddin which saw the box office take a massive upheaval. However, when the official numbers of the MS Dhoni biopic made its way to the theatres, there was a literal stampede in theatres across the country.

With almost Rs. 80 Crores netted in the box office in just the first few days of its release, MS Dhoni – The Untold Story will most certainly cross the horizons set by former films in the past. Moreover, the message and feedback for the biopic have also seen a worldwide audience established in the doldrums of Indian cricket.

However, while all of this is very nice to hear in terms of monetary engagements as well as finances for the movie, the biopic of Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has seemingly taken somewhat of a backseat. Sachin Tendulkar – A billion Dreams was expected to grace cinemas even before the Dhoni biopic, only for the producers to wait for the arrival and close of The Untold Story from the silver screens across the country.

However, while MS Dhoni has reportedly pocketed a handsome sum of money for the rights to the movie, former India batsman Tendulkar cannot even dream of charging an Indian to go and watch his film. Money also does not seem to be an issue as the principle producer happens to be one of Tendulkar’s closest friends.

The source said, “The film is produced by Sachin’s friend Ravi Bhagchandka. Sachin couldn’t dream of charging any money from him.”

The source added, “Not only did Sachin agree to open up about his life’s experiences to the team, he also persuaded his son to play the young Sachin on screen.”

While MS Dhoni had a plethora of struggles, Tendulkar made his way into the Indian team as a prodigy of sorts when he graced the cricketing arena at the tender age of 16. He was also very much a part of the renaissance of Indian cricket in the years to come.
