On the field, India’s outing against England in the ICC World Cup on Sunday was not a happy affair as Virat Kohli’s team lost by 31 runs. However, off it, the fans had something pleasing happening as former batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar was found watching the game with the Google CEO Sundar Pichai at the venue and a bonhomie was seen brewing among them. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as well as Tendulkar, later posted photos of the meeting on their respective social media pages later.

Pichai, who was born in Madurai 47 summers back, is known to be a cricket fan and he recently said in an event organised by US-India Business Council that he is backing India and England to make it to the final of the World Cup. He also said that he too had dreamt of becoming a cricketer in his formative years and idolised Sunil Gavaskar and later Tendulkar, who also had revered Gavaskar like all the kids of the 1970s.

However, it looks less likely that India and England will renew their rivalry in the final but one step earlier, in the semi-finals. India are currently second in the points table with 13 with Australia have 14. If only India beat Sri Lanka in their final league match on Saturday and the Kangaroos lose to South Africa the same day that India can avoid England and take on New Zealand in the semi-final instead.

If India plays England in the semi-final, it will be taking place at the same Edgbaston where they met last Sunday, on July 11, on the eve of Pichai’s birthday.

Tendulkar’s funny take on his image with Pichai

Tendulkar, who is also known for his funny takes on Twitter, captioned his picture with Pichai as “Kya yeh Sundar pic-hai?” adding a smiling emoji after it.

The Google bigshot also came up a reply in which he pulled in Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s famous quip from behind the stumps: “Bahut Badhiya”.

The legendary duo made the fans’ day even as the story that unfolded on the 22 yards was against their likings.
