As India beat arch-rivals Australia in what was one of the most enthralling encounters of recent times, two new silent heroes were born. While Umesh Yadav had an amazing serious with the ball, it was Cheteshwar Pujara who received a lot of praises from the cricket universe for his heroics with the bat.

The Border-Gavaskar series was a combined effort of the whole of the Indian team. However, the Indian captain singled out that one warrior who he thought was the primary force behind regaining the prestigious trophy and that was the resilient Cheteshwar Pujara. Kohli took to Instagram to heap praises on the 29-year-old who slammed 405 runs from seven innings this home season.

And this time around it is Sachin Tendulkar who has come out in praise of both Umesh Yadav and Pujara. The god of cricket called Pujara a ‘silent warrior’ for the way in which the batsman withstands long innings and doesn’t give away his wicket in haste.

“Pujara has been a silent warrior, terrific temperament, and somebody again who (is) dedicated, disciplined and focused. I have seen him from close quarters and I was impressed with what I saw, I knew that this guy is there for long time.” Tendulkar told PTI.

As far as the KKR fast bowler is concerned, he may not have been the highest wicket-taker in the series, but he was very efficient in stopping the flow of runs from the opposition.

“The way guys have shown discipline and commitment, 13 Test matches in a row, I don’t remember anything like that happening during our periods.” Sachin added.

“Someone like Umesh (Yadav) have played 12 of them, so for a fast bowler it is really taxing, that shows that you are going to work on your body,” he said.

Tendulkar also singled out that one particular inning in which he thought Umesh bowled the career-best spell.

“Umesh is a kind of a bowler who keeps getting better with time, the more he bowls the better he gets. And you could see that, the last innings of the season that he bowled was possibly the best spell.”
